Configure your temperature sensor

Answer a few questions about your application and we'll match you to the right probe, wire, and cable combination.

Step 1 of 8 — Sensor type

Type 1

There are typically four considerations when deciding the type — start with what you're measuring and how hot it gets.

What is a thermocouple?

A thermocouple is a sensor used to measure temperature. It consists of two wire legs made from different metals, welded together at one end to form a junction.

RTDs

Rugged, reliable, and highly accurate, with easy ordering and fast turnarounds — backed by responsive service and support.

Temperature range

Noble metal thermocouples can reach 1700°C, while standard RTDs top out at 300°C and extended-range RTDs reach 600°C.

Thermocouple

Choose at least one — a resistance thermometer type or a thermocouple type — to continue.

Wiring configuration

How the element is wired affects measurement accuracy, especially over longer cable runs.

Sheath material & diameter

The sheath protects the sensing element from the process environment.

Probe length & mounting

Insertion length should reach the true process temperature; mounting depends on your vessel or pipe fitting.
